Toon fans in the U.S.: You can add Columbus to the list of cities where you can see Newcastle United play this summer. And you may want to keep Washington, D.C. in mind.
The rumored match between Newcastle United and the MLS' Columbus Crew has been confirmed. The Mags will take on the Crew on Tuesday night, July 26, at 7:30 p.m., six nights after the previously announced July 20 date in Kansas City against Sporting KC.
Those dates leave a rather conspicuous gap over the weekend between. Only four MLS clubs have open dates on the schedule that weekend: Chicago Fire, D.C. United, L.A. Galaxy and the Vancouver Whitecaps. The Fire have already announced a match against Manchester United at Soldier Field that Saturday. Of the other three cities, Washington, D.C. would be much more easily reachable in a short time frame than Los Angeles or Vancouver - Washington is a little more than seven hours away from Columbus on the Interstate (close by U.S. standards), or a short hop by plane.
We have a call in to D.C. United asking whether a Newcastle visit to Washington might be in the works. No reply yet; watch here for further details.
There's a good handful of Geordie ex-pats living in Florida and we're all looking forward to seeing the lads wherever they play. It looks like its going to be a good summer.
Keep up the good work with the site lads - great stuff (almost as good as the Toon win and the Mackem stuffing this weekend!)

More yanks supporting the toon these than people under 25st over there. Fair play. I would actually love to come over for these games but its 650 miles from Kansas to Colombus ffs.

That 650 miles is mostly cornfields, Stevie, all on one highway. As 11-hour drives go it's pretty easy. But I suppose we Americans are more accustomed to that sort of thing.

Yeah I suppose you can fly there too? Its 5 hours from Newcastle to London by road thats enough for me.

Yes, you can fly, and the fare should be reasonable. Kansas City is a major hub airport here.

I'm going with a few people all wearing our Newcastle shirts. How do we get in a fan section?!

We're in touch with the clubs and we just learned Kansas City will be offering a road section for Newcastle fans. We're hoping for the same at Columbus. Stay tuned to the blog for details on when tickets go on sale and how to get in with the Newcastle crowd before, during and after the games.

This sounds kick ass. I cannot wait! Bob are you gonna get the information regarding the VIP packages in KC too?
