I don't know if Newcastle United will sign Gervinho or Kevin Gameiro.
I'm not going to waste your time with the sort of "in-the-know" bullshit that has taken over Twitter in recent weeks. The latest whisper is that Gervinho will sign with Arsenal next week. I suppose that could be true, although it's odd then that no respected news outlet has backed up the claim.
Still, there's a distinct possibility that Gervinho and Gameiro will both end up somewhere other than Tyneside next season. Regardless of what happens, Newcastle fans should be excited that the club is legitimately in for both of them.
United can't make players sign, but it can show interest in ones that fit the right profile -- young and ambitious talents. The worst-case scenario is that Gervinho and Gameiro opt for different clubs, and Newcastle will move on to other targets (I'm looking at you, Charles N'Zogbia). No harm done, because it's still plenty early in the summer.
So sit back and enjoy seeing Newcastle show some ambition, regardless of how the Gervinho and Gameiro sagas end.
L'Equipe TV (respected magazine in France) said that Gervinho will sign for newcastle and Gervinho himself has said that he will say where he is going after the Benin match on saturday.

Sorry to tell you, Jeff (and others who may have been drawn in)...the report of Gervinho's signing by L'Equipe TV appears to have been a Twitter fake. Can't find anything on L'Equipe about it, and they'd have put a story that big on their news site as well as TV.

As the article said, regardless of whether we get Gervinho or Gameiro, it's great to see some initiative from the club. Even if Gameiro ends up at Valencia or PSG and Gameiro heads to Arsenal, I have confidence that Graham Carr and his scouts have a backup plan. I heard nothing about Cabaye before the last few days, and Tiote was an unknown as well. We'll get some decent players in this summer, it's just a matter of holding on to the ones we already have.

If we keep Jonas...some striker is going to look at our midfield and want to sign.
Jonas, Nolan, Tiote, Cabaye (never seen him play, only going by what others say), Barton (still think he will be here), Gosling and Ben Afra. That is a very strong unit.
Its only a matter of time.
